Hytte & Charming Marie 6 on the ferry
Here’s Marie on the ferry. She went along with us to stay at a cabin for a couple of days.

There was grilling.

And trampolining.

And rainbowing.

And boating.

And more boating.

And fishing.

And inspecting the fish before throwing it back.

And hiking.

There was lots of fun.

Bursdag i Bud
We spent the day in Bud to celebrate my mother-in-law’s birthday. We visited the cemetery and hiked along a new (to me) path near the water. On our way back into town, we passed by her childhood home — which was sold after her mother died a couple of years ago. The new owners saw us, opened their doors wide and invited us all in to see the remodeling they had done to the house. It was quite a treat. We had dinner at the restaurant Bryggen i Bud, visited the war memorial and stopped to see the vacation rental where Oldefar’s boat house once stood. It was a great day.

We’re back, and I’ve got lots of catching up to do. While I do that, here are some pretty Norwegian flowers to look at … because one can never get enough of pretty Norwegian flowers. (I have more!)

Books: Heat Wave
I just read Heat Wave (on Kindle) by Richard Castle. Like the show, the book is campy and fun. The “daring duo” cops (called “Roach” in the book) are funnier on the show, though. There’s another Castle book coming out in September. I might just tune in.

Movies: Fantastic Mr. Fox
July 15, 2010 | Movies
We watched Fantastic Mr. Fox after reading the book this summer. Well, sort of. We tried to watch it on the portable DVD player we brought, but things kept going wrong. So we’ll have to have a proper viewing when we get back home.

Books: Fantastic Mr. Fox

The kids and I read Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl this summer. We also brought along the movie to watch when we were done. The kids loved the story.

Books: Motherhood, the Second Oldest Profession
July 13, 2010 | Books
I just read Motherhood, the Second Oldest Profession by Erma Bombeck. I grew up in a time when Bombeck was a household name. I was around when her columns were still in the newspapers. This, however, is the first book of hers I’ve read as a mother. She’s a one-of-a-kind. I love her humor and wisdom.
