And whispered in the sounds of silence

We heard an ambulance go by the house last night, and later it went back toward town with the siren wailing. It’s the first time in a year of living here that we’ve heard an ambulance go by. That means it must have picked up one of our neighbors. Only question is, which one?

This brought to mind a trip I took to Hawaii with my terminally ill mother; we traveled there to meet up with her sisters from Japan, and Oahu was a good halfway point. We arrived at 8pm on a Sunday night, and less than 10 hours later, I woke up to find my mother having a grand mal seizure, and called 911. The lovely hush of the tropical dawn was broken by the ambulance racing through the suburban neighborhood where I’d rented a small apartment – I couldn’t even tell the 911 operator the address.
I’m sending good thoughts to your neighbor, whoever he/she may be.

It’s like that where we live….I think it was a couple of years after we moved before I heard the first siren. Somehow it’s so much closer to home when it’s so unusual…hope whoever it was is ok!
