Walking in a winter wonderland
December 7, 2009 | Family, Holidays, Iowa, Stuff, Weather, Winter
We got our Christmas tree at a tree farm last year. We returned yesterday to get this year’s tree. (Do it twice, and it’s a tradition!) Much to our surprise, the tree farm was closed off with a sign that said it was sold out. So we got our tree in town.
It wasn’t quite the same as getting it from the tree farm, but the tree farm didn’t have a gigantic snowman.
We came to Iowa without friends and without traditions, except those we could pack or carry with us. So the tree farm isn’t technically a tradition yet, but decorating the tree is. That’s good enough for now.
The free movies and Santa visit from the weekend count as traditions now. Plus Christmas Eve is the same as it’s been for years and years. We have pinnekjøtt for dinner, open gifts and leave treats and letters for Santa. If we’re lucky, we’ll have svineribbe for dinner Christmas Day, but that’s been a bit harder to come by lately. We might play that one by ear this year.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year
There’ll be much mistletoe-ing
And hearts will be glowing
When loved ones are near
It’s the most wonderful time of the year.
How lucky I am to have my four loved ones near, no matter where we are.

you are very lucky. It’s just me and my kid together out here. Kind of sucks but I love her to death and we make it work

That’s all you can do, right, Jessica? :)
